Fixed supports won't move at all, while adjustable support can generally be moved backward and forward depending on how firm you want it, with some also moving up and down to accommodate taller users. Dynamic lumbar support offers the most consistent support, moving with your body when you shift in your seat.Adjustability: Most modern office chairs will let you recline and tilt the seat, but check how much of a degree the seat leans back, and whether you can lock the recline into position as some will spring back when pressure is removed.Seat depth and height: This is really important, as you'll want to adjust how far back in your seat you sit for the right amount of support. While most are height adjustable, not all let you alter the depth of the seat. In terms of choosing one with the right height range, users between 4'11" and 6'5 should go for a chair between 17in and 21in; if you're under 4’11”, choose one that goes below 16 inches; if you're over 6’5″, check the seat height rises to 21in or over.Materials: For me, breathability is key with an office chair, and for that you'll want a mesh chair, or at least one with a mesh backrest and foam seat. However, some chairs with all-over padded will offer greater comfort, but look for those with fabric coverings that won't leave you sweating after eight hours in the chair.Seat type: Office chairs tend to come in mid-back and high-back variants. Mid-back options offer excellent back support up to the shoulders. High-back models give you support for the back, shoulders, and neck - and head when paired with a headrest. However, they'll limit your movement more than a mid-back office chair.Avoid...Non-adjustable armrests: Fixed armrests aren't going to give you the flexibility to fine-tune comfort. When you're buying an office chair, you'll see most have 1D, 2D, 3D, and 4D armrests - this tells you the directions they can move in - up, down, in, out, backwards, and forwards, and so on. Even 1D armrests, which move up and down, can be poor, especially on a cheaper chair. So, I generally recommend opting for 2D armrests at a minimum.Fixed lumbar support: Always opt for adjustable lumbar support wherever possible. Your back will thank you later. This can be especially important if you're taller, as you'll want the support to reach the right position in your lower back. There are few exceptions here, notably the Herman Miller Embody which has a fixed lumbar support but a dynamic backrest that effectively fulfils the same function as a standard dynamic lumbar support.PU leather: Sometimes called leatherette or faux-leather, this is a plastic material usually found on padded office chairs. And while it can be comfortable, if you're in the seat for long hours, it can get hot and sweaty (and not in a good way). I would always recommend avoiding this type of material unless no alternatives are available.Low-back chairs: Also known as task stools, these chairs offer next to no support whatsoever, and are best-suited for shorter periods of sitting.Choosing style over substance: Some office chairs can look really classy, and well-designed for the modern workspace. But don't choose an office chair this Black Friday on looks alone. Check the specs to make sure you're getting the right amount of support and comfort when using it for extended periods of time. You can find out more about choosing the right office chair in my guide by clicking here.2025-11-26T19:27:04.729ZProbably the best planners around for work (and life)(Image credit: Clever Fox)My wife absolutely swears by Clever Fox's selection of notebooks and planners - and there's quite a range from budget planners to pocket planners to self-care planners to planners for teaching. It's a gaming chair, but the professional style in black makes it an ideal choice for work as much as play. I've included it in the round-up, but it's worth an extra shout-out here.In our review, we appreciated its level of comfort and considered design, and despite the low price-tag, it looks and feels looks as good as many higher-end chairs. My advice would be to go for the fabric version over the leatherette (or fake leather) one, as it'll be more breathable when working and play for extended periods of time.US: Corsair TC100 Relaxed was $270now $215 at AmazonUK: Corsair TC100 Relaxed was £200now £149 at Amazon2025-11-25T21:41:14.347ZThis $480 tower desktop is faster than Apple's Mac mini M4 Pro - and that beast costs $1399(Image credit: Future)This is a must-buy for for professionals looking for a powerful tower desktop deal this Black Friday. Both include a compatible pen, with the Remarkable offering deals on both the fabric and leather folio bundles too.I've used both e-ink tablets and personally, I opted for the Remarkable 2. It's the better of the two if your focus is on writing and marking-up documents and has a slightly better writing experience (it's closer to writing on real paper). But I'm splitting hairs, really - there's not a whole lot in it and the Scribe is notably cheaper. You can read our reviews for the Kindle Scribe and Remarkable 2 for more info. The only thing I'll say is, which ever you choose, you'll definitely want a case for extra protection, especially for business travel. And this Black Friday deal for the Logitech Brio 101 webcam is worth checking out. It's a 1080p webcam with a built-in privacy shutter and features auto-light balance. A 4K model with noise-canceling mic is also on sale from Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk, but honestly, for standard office meetings and video calls, I'd opt for the Brio 101 (100 in the UK) at this price.US: Logitech Brio 101 webcam was $40 now $25 at Amazon.comUK: Logitech Brio 100 webcam was £45 now £26 at Amazon.co.uk2025-11-24T16:48:39.377ZIf you're shipping out products, this is a deal for you(Image credit: Munbyn // Future)There's a nice discount on the Munbyn RW403B inkless thermal printer over on Amazon.
